Thanks for your interest in my work. My intention is to connect with nature or what I like to call 'that which I don't control' so I can recognise and develop my relationship to - and gratitude for - life and reality. Birthing drums contributes to this journey. I was blessed to work with a Native American Shaman for many years. He was a fire dancer and embodied what he called 'looking through life's eyes', sharing what he witnessed from that view. My relationship with him was life-changing and impacts and supports my choices. I've always found sound, singing and vibration to be healing. In a far away past I trained as a textile artist at Manchester Polytechnic. Art is about self expression, sharing what we see personally and this, for me, is about being vulnerable enough to be able to stand in my authenticity. I went on to train in Psychotherapy and what was then called BodyMind Therapies - the posh word for it now is 'Somatic'. I worked for 30 years both in private practice and within a multi disciplinary team supporting families and young people. Now, I would describe myself as someone who crafts and creates. I trained to birth Shamanic Drums and Sacred Tools six years ago after using them on Equine Facilitated Psychotherapist training. Since then, I have crafted and used drums within my therapy work and for my own personal development. Since taking early retirement from my psychotherapy role, I have found satisfaction and meaning in making drums especially as this work grounds me in nature.

Each drum is completely individual and unique. There is a process when making/birthing the drum, though each birth, as in all births, is different and provides teaching and wisdom. People generally connect to something in a drum, something it communicates to them personally. In indigenous cultures, the relationship to the drum reflects the person's relationship with life and their personal journey. When making drums for other people I sometimes feel a wrench to see them go though am inspirited to know their vibration and voice is present in the world.
I often birth drums out in the field with my horses who are very curious and bring their energy to the birth, standing nearby while I work. They love the beat and rhythm of the drum and the shake of the rattle. As with humans, the sound and vibration is meditative and healing.
I occasionally offer Drumming with Horses sessions usually to honour specific dates on the Wheel of the Year including Solstice and Beltane.
